Cozy Cottage in the Hood

As summer keeps creeping closer, our Hood River Cottage is almost ready for rent. We have had so many fun memories restoring this downtown home (If you saw it before... "restore" is an understatement!!). We have the deck and landscaping all scheduled to do before June 1st comes and it gets listed on VRBO. I am going to take the time to share some of the inside or as I call it the guts. We have tried our best to make it cozy for guests and we will continue to add special touches along the way.

Photography by Sarah Hubbard
We had Sarah Hubbard from Dear Bee Photography take pictures of the house. She normally takes family photos and senior portraits but she did us a favor. For not being her thing she did a great job.

The kitchen renovation made the kitchen very usable. We tried keeping as many of the old 1914 original cabinets. New appliances, granite countertops and a clear glass subway tile backsplash made the kitchen just enough new with the flavor of old!!

The bedrooms each have there own charm. Cute and comfortable and ready for a relaxing stay!!

We can't wait to have guests stay in this cute cottage.

One of my favorite added touches on the house was by Sarah Hubbard. She designed and painted our stairs to look like vintage book spins. They turned out great!! She has many of her art pieces scattered around the house and are all available for purchasing!! Her site is shown below.

Chalkboard Decor

Today was chalkboard day!! I have never done chalkboards before and have always been intimidated by them. To be honest my sister is an artist and she does amazing chalkboard art, so I guess I have always talked her into doing it!! Not today... I tackled them and I am please with the outcome. Here was the first one.
This was done on an original 1914 kitchen cabinet door from this Hood River Cottage. It has been sanded down and made into a chalkboard. This is it up on the wall, better picture of the whole cabinet door and original glass knob...
The next chalkboard I did was above the kitchen sink. It is larger in size and there are some opsticles to work with... Here is how it turned out...

And the last one is the whisk... After drawing it my sister had a good idea... She thought I should write cook at your own "whisk" ... Loved the idea, but I was too afraid that my whisk wouldn't look as good if I started over. On the over the cabinet picture visualize a piece of barn wood that says "eat"... I just started staging the cabinets... So it is a "work in progress"... I will share more pictures when completely finished!!

Overall I think they turned out better than I expected!! I hope you enjoyed it!! Thanks for stopping by!!
Cheers,
Kaitlin
